[edit] Early life

Born in Bemidji, Minnesota in 1921, Russell was the eldest child and only daughter of the five children of Roy William Russell (January 5, 1890 – July 18, 1937) and Geraldine Jacobi (January 2, 1891 – December 26, 1986).[citation needed]

Her parents were both born in North Dakota. Three of her grandparents were born in Canada, while her paternal grandmother was born in Germany. Her parents married in 1917. Her father was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and her mother was a former actress with a road troupe. Her parents spent the early years of their marriage in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. For her birth her mother temporarily moved back to the U.S. to ensure she was born a U.S. citizen.[original research?] Later the family moved to the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. They lived in Burbank in 1930 and her father worked as an office manager at a soap manufacturing plant.[citation needed]

Russell's mother arranged for her to take piano lessons. In addition to music, she was interested in drama and participated in stage productions at Van Nuys High School. Her early ambition was to be a designer of some kind, until the death of her father at forty-six, when she decided to work as a receptionist after graduation. She also modeled for photographers and, at the urging of her mother, studied drama and acting with Max Reinhardt's Theatrical Workshop and with famed Russian actress Maria Ouspenskaya.[citation needed]

[edit] Career

In 1940, Russell was signed to a seven-year contract by film mogul Howard Hughes[3] and made her motion picture debut in The Outlaw (1943), a story about Billy the Kid that went to great lengths to showcase her voluptuous figure. Although the movie was completed in 1941, it was released for a limited showing two years later. There were problems with the censorship of the production code over the way her ample cleavage was displayed. When the movie was finally passed, it had a general release in 1946. During that time, she was kept busy doing publicity and became known nationally. Contrary to countless incorrect reports in the media since the release of The Outlaw, Russell did not wear the specially designed underwire bra (the first of its kind[4]) that Howard Hughes constructed for the film. According to Jane's 1988 autobiography, she was given the bra, decided it had a mediocre fit, and wore her own bra on the film set with the straps pulled down.[citation needed]

With measurements of 38D-24-36 and standing 5'7" she was more statuesque than most of her contemporaries. Aside from thousands of quips from radio comedians, including Bob Hope, who once introduced her as "the two and only Jane Russell" and "Culture is the ability to describe Jane Russell without moving your hands", the photo of her on a haystack was a popular pin-up with servicemen during World War II. She was not in another movie until 1946, when she played Joan Kenwood in Young Widow for RKO.

In 1947, Russell attempted to launch a musical career. She sang with the Kay Kyser Orchestra on radio and recorded two singles with his band, "As Long As I Live" and "Boin-n-n-ng!" She also cut a 78 rpm album that year for Columbia Records, Let's Put Out the Lights, which included eight torch ballads and cover art that included a diaphanous gown that for once put the focus more on her legs than on her breasts. In a 2009 interview for the liner notes to another CD, Fine and Dandy, Russell denounced the Columbia album as "horrible and boring to listen to". It was reissued on CD in 2002, in a package that also included the Kyser singles and two songs she recorded for Columbia in 1949 that went unreleased at the time. In 1950, she recorded a single, "Kisses and Tears," with Frank Sinatra and The Modernaires for Columbia.

Jane Russell as Dorothy Shaw in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953).

She performed in an assortment of movie roles, which included Calamity Jane, opposite Bob Hope in The Paleface (1948) on loan out to Paramount, and Mike "the Torch" Delroy opposite Hope in another western comedy, Son of Paleface (1952), again at Paramount.[citation needed] Russell was Dorothy Shaw in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) opposite Marilyn Monroe for 20th Century Fox, which was well-received.[citation needed]

She appeared in two movies opposite Robert Mitchum, His Kind of Woman (1951) and Macao (1952). Other co-stars include Frank Sinatra and Groucho Marx in the comedy Double Dynamite (1951); Victor Mature, Vincent Price and Hoagy Carmichael in The Las Vegas Story (1952); Jeff Chandler in Foxfire (1955); and Clark Gable and Robert Ryan in The Tall Men (1955).

In Howard Hughes' RKO production The French Line (1954), the movie's penultimate moment showed Russell in a form-fitting one-piece bathing suit with strategic cut outs, performing a then-provocative musical number titled "Lookin' for Trouble". In her autobiography, Russell said that the revealing outfit was an alternative to Hughes' original suggestion of a bikini, a very racy choice for a movie costume in 1954. Russell said that she initially wore the bikini in front of her "horrified" movie crew while "feeling very naked". She and her first husband, former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Bob Waterfield, formed Russ-Field Productions in 1955. They produced Gentlemen Marry Brunettes (1955), The King and Four Queens (1956) starring Clark Gable and Eleanor Parker, Run for the Sun (1956) and The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown (1957).[citation needed]

She starred in Gentlemen Marry Brunettes, opposite Jeanne Crain, and in The Revolt of Mamie Stover (1956). After making The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown (1957), which failed at the box-office, she did not appear on the silver screen again for seven years.[citation needed]

On the musical front, Russell formed a gospel group with Connie Haines, former vocalist in the Harry James and Tommy Dorsey orchestras, and Beryl Davis, a British emigrant who had moved to the U.S. after success entertaining American troops stationed in England during World War II. With Della Russell as a fourth voice and backed by an orchestra conducted by Lyn Murray, their Coral single "Do Lord" reached number 27 on the Billboard singles chart in May 1954. Russell, Haines and Davis followed up with an LP for Capitol Records, The Magic of Believing. According to the liner notes on this album, the group started when the women met at a church social. Later, another Hollywood bombshell, Rhonda Fleming, joined them for more gospel recordings. A collection of some of Russell's gospel and secular recordings was issued on CD in England in 2005, and the Capitol LP was issued on CD in 2008, in a package that also included more secular recordings, including Russell's spoken word performances of Hollywood Riding Hood and Hollywood Cinderella backed by a jazz group that featured Terry Gibbs and Tony Scott.[citation needed]

In October 1957, she debuted in a successful solo nightclub act at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. She also fulfilled later engagements in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe. A self-titled solo LP was issued on MGM Records in 1959. It was reissued on CD in 2009 under the title Fine and Dandy, and the CD included some demo and soundtrack recordings as well. "I finally got to make a record the way I wanted to make it", she said of the MGM album in the liner notes to the CD reissue. In 1961, she debuted with a tour of Janus in New England. In the fall of 1961, she performed in Skylark at the Drury Lane Theatre, Chicago. In November 1962, she performed in Bells Are Ringing at the Westchester Town House in Yonkers, New York.[citation needed]

Her next movie appearance came in Fate Is the Hunter (1964), in which she was seen as herself performing for the USO in a flashback sequence. She made only four more movies after that, playing character parts in the final two.

In 1971, she starred in the musical drama Company, making her debut on Broadway in the role of Joanne, succeeding Elaine Stritch. Russell performed the role of Joanne for almost six months. Also in the 1970s, she started appearing in television commercials as a spokeswoman for Playtex "cross your heart bras for us full-figured gals", featuring the "18-hour bra". She wrote an autobiography in 1985, Jane Russell: My Path and My Detours. In 1989, she received the Women's International Center (WIC) Living Legacy Award.[citation needed]

Russell's hand and foot prints are immortalized in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theater and she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6850 Hollywood Boulevard.[citation needed]

Russell was voted one of the 40 Most Iconic Movie Goddesses of all time in 2009 by Glamour (UK edition).[5]

[edit] Fictional portrayals

Russell was portrayed by Renee Henderson in the 2001 CBS mini-series Blonde, based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates and portrayed leaving her imprints at Grauman's along with Marilyn Monroe in the HBO film Norma Jean & Marilyn starring Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino.

[edit] Personal life

Russell in 2008

Russell has had three husbands: Bob Waterfield, a UCLA All American, Cleveland Rams and Los Angeles Rams quarterback, Los Angeles Rams head coach, and Pro Football Hall of Fame member (married on April 24, 1943, then divorced in July 1968); actor Roger Barrett, (married on August 25, 1968 through his death on November 18, 1968); and the real-estate broker John Calvin Peoples (married January 31, 1974 through his death on April 9, 1999). Russell and Peoples lived in Sedona, Arizona for a few years, but spent the majority of their married life residing in Montecito, California. In February 1952, she and Waterfield adopted a baby girl, Tracy. In December 1952, they adopted a fifteen-month-old boy, Thomas, and in 1956 she and Waterfield adopted a nine-month-old boy, Robert John. Russell herself was unable to have children and, in 1955, she founded World Adoption International Fund (WAIF), an organization to place children with adoptive families that pioneered adoptions from foreign countries by Americans.[citation needed]

At the height of her career, Russell started the "Hollywood Christian Group", a weekly Bible study at her home which was arranged for Christians in the film industry.[6] Russell appeared occasionally on the Praise The Lord program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, a Christian television channel based in Costa Mesa, California.[7] Russell was at times a prominent Republican Party member who attended Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration along with other notables from Hollywood such as Lou Costello, Dick Powell, June Allyson, Anita Louise and Louella Parsons.

Russell resided in Santa Maria Valley along the Central Coast of California. She died of respiratory problems.[8]

UN worried over Libya access - Africa - Al Jazeera English

The UN says 40,000 people fleeing Libya have have crossed the Tunisian border [Reuters]

The fragile security situation in and around the Libya capital of Tripoli has made it too dangerous for international aid agencies to assess the need for medicine, food and other supplies there, the United Nations has said.

"The major concerns are Tripoli and the west where access is extremely difficult because of the security situation," Valerie Amos, the UN humanitarian chief, told Al Jazeera on Monday.

"There are reports that between 600 and 2,000 people have already been killed in Tripoli. We don't know the absolute accurate number because we haven't got people there who are able to do assessments ... we've seen some horrific pictures of what is happening and we really want to be able to go in to help people in the time of need."

Amos also called on countries neighbouring Libya to keep their borders open so refugees can continue to flee.

As of Monday morning, an estimated 61,000 had fled into Egypt, 1,000 to Niger and 40,000 to Tunisia, according to the UN, which said there was concern about water and sanitation for the refugees.

Libya also borders Algeria, Niger, Chad and Sudan.

Red Cross teams

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has also called for immediate and safe access to western Libya.

ICRC teams entered the eastern side of the country including the country's second city Benghazi over the weekend, and are now supporting local doctors with medical care. Two thousand people were wounded there, according to the agency.

A similar ICRC team including surgeons and supplies was waiting on the western border in Tunisia.

"Right now, the situation is far too unstable and insecure to enable much-needed help to enter western parts of the country," Yves Daccord, the ICRC director-general, said.

"Health and aid workers must be allowed to do their jobs safely. Patients must not be attacked, and ambulances and hospitals must not be misused. It's a matter of life and death."

Thousands of foreigners have been evacuated from Libya since the unrest began, with ships and planes sent by countries including China  India, the US, Turkey and many other European countries.

But many citizens of Iraq, Sudan, Somalia and other poor countries are stranded in the country as they lack the resources to escape, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said.

"There are no planes and boats to evacuate people originating from war-torn or very poor countries," he said in a statement.

The few UN workers who were based in Tripoli left when it became unstable.

Amos said humanitarian work is proceeding smoothly along Libya's eastern border with Egypt,  which is now controlled by government opponents, with eight agencies providing medical care, food and other critical aid.

Tunisians, to the northwest, have been providing refugees with shelter and food, Amos said.

FireSAN OS provides fault tolerance via iSCSI Volume Replication. Data is copied in real time to the primary server and every change is immediately mirrored to a secondary server and in the event of a failure of the primary server FireSAN OS automatically switches operations to the secondary server.

Cross Data Synchronization

FireSAN OS synchronizes files and directories from one NAS server to another. Disaster recovery or Disk-to-Disk backup synchronization utilizes block-based data transfer that minimizes network traffic. FireSAN OS can synchronize data in both directions: the FireSAN can be the source and destination of files at the same time, allowing to cross-backup data on several servers.

SCSI-3 Persistent Reservation

Support for persistent reservation commands. This enables support for Windows 2008 and Windows Cluster.

Sys check

Enables you to check the performance of your system.

Support for over 2TB Physical and Logical Volumes (LV)

The FireSAN supports logical volumes greater than 2TB and a physical size of up to 16TB in 32bit mode.

Snapshot

Snapshot is an immediate point-in-time image of the logical volume. The snapshot image can be used for both consistent and temporary backup, while users still have uninterrupted and complete access to the LV. Files can be recovered from previous snapshots should a file be accidentally deleted or modified.

Multiple Snapshots with Scheduling Function

The FireSAN supports “Multiple Snapshot with Scheduling” to create snapshots at predefined points in time (e.g. automatically every hour).

Multiple Logical Volume & Groups

Logical volume groups allow storage administrators to create logical storage pools that span multiple physical disk drives. With its support of multiple logical volume groups, the FireSAN makes it easier to meet the changing needs of users and applications while making the maximum use of available physical disk space.

Online Logical Volume Expansion

Online logical volume expansion allows administrators to change the size of storage volumes as needed without having to restart the application, recreate the volume, and backup and restore data to the volume.

Support for Online Capacity Expansion

Our hardware RAID controllers’ expansion capability supports the increase of size of existing units without removing data.

MONITORING

Hardware Monitoring

FireSAN OS monitors hardware status such as temperature, voltage and fan speed provided by the motherboard’s sensors.

New Year to Bring Ban of Most Medicinal Herbs in Europe

The right to manage our health as we see fit is more basic than free speech. Medicinal herbs are our heritage, yet the EU intends to steal our access to most of them, handing it over to corporations.

by Heidi Stevenson

30 December 2010

Chamomile Flowers Used in Herbal Tea and Medicine
(from MorgueFile.com)

In the European Union, the new year dawns with the impending loss of access to most medicinal herbs. The mildly named Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) effectively bans the use of most herbal medicines and all non-EU based herbal traditions, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine.

The Independent offers the usual claim that the "directive was introduced in response to rising concern over adverse effects caused by herbal medicines." Of course, that claim is never investigated or supported. It's trotted out as if it were axiomatic, so obvious that it can't be questioned. But herbal medicines are safer by degrees of magnitude than mainstream medicine and its pharmaceutical drugs. The truth in this matter is that there's been a rising concern over the business lost to Big Pharma when people choose herbs over modern medicine. The THMPD is part of a worldwide move to take control of health from people and hand it to the rapacious hands of Big Pharma, Agribusiness, and Big Medicine.

False Arguments

Arguments in favor of such a ban include the outlandish concept that they're dangerous, requiring the public's protection from them. Also frequent are the claims that "It isn't so bad," or "They're only trying to protect us," or "They're merely trying to simplify the registration process." None of these arguments holds up to inspection.

Let's look at each argument:

"They're dangerous and need to be regulated."
Danger is a relative thing. The fact is that harm from herbal medicines is fadingly rare. When compared with modern medicine's drugs and surgeries, this claim is simply laughable.

"The efficacy of herbs needs to be proven."
Why? Herbs have been used since before written history history. The remains of a prehistoric man found in a glacier prove that herbs were in use. Free access to herbs has been an unwritten right. By what right does anyone demand that they meet new standards?

"It isn't so bad."
Since when did a coercive law become acceptable because it doesn't do too much harm? Aside from that point, many people will lose access to herbal products that they've come to depend upon for their health. How can anyone say that's not so bad?

"They're only trying to protect us."
The simplest response is that I don't want to be protected from herbs, and neither do others who use them. Anyone who tries to "protect" me from herbs is interfering with my right to use them. By what right does anyone presume to steal our right to manage our health as we wish?

"They're merely trying to simplify the registration process."
This argument comes from the wording of THMPD, which states that its purpose is to simplify the registration process. However, there was no registration process until THMPD, so how could a nonexistent process by simplified? By any rational view, adding a registration process is more complex than no registration process.

Our Herbal Heritage Is Being Handed to Corporations.

In the guise of safety and efficacy, our herbal heritage is being handed over to corporate interests for their profits. The entire industry is being uprooted and destroyed. Small producers—the ones who grow true organic herbs and put their hearts into it—will be unable to produce and sell them. Anything considered foreign to the EU, such as Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine traditions, will be banned.

Herbs and herbal products will be required to go through a process similar to that imposed on pharmaceutical drugs. They are, in effect, being treated as if they were drugs.

A common claim is that, once a particular herb is approved, it will then be possible for any company to sell it. This is absolutely untrue. Licensing is done by brand. The fact that a particular herbal product has been approved, such as echinacea, has no bearing on other products. They must go through the same extremely expensive process, and even that may not assure success.

Of those herbal products that are approved, as we're now seeing in the UK, the vast majority have been adulterated. They are far from pure. The worst fears of those who oppose THMPD are being demonstrated: Medicinal herbal products are being coopted by large corporations. They are becoming nothing but commodities that exist for profits. In the name of safety and efficacy, our herbal heritage is being wrenched from us.

For those who don't believe just how serious this is, read the next section to see how the UK is implementing the THMPD.

Licensing by Brand

Each European country is required to implement the THMPD. The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) holds the authority to implement it in the UK. Thus far, they've approved fewer than a hundred products. Each approval given is for only a single product. When one company gains approval, it does not transfer to any other company. As might be expected, only those companies with deep pockets are able to meet the requirements, and they are willing to do so only for products they believe are big sellers.

Here are some of the products that have been approved. Take note, in particular, of the last item in the list. It's peppermint. Yes, peppermint will become a controllable herb.

  • PhytoCon SABAL Capsules (Saw palmetto fruit), made by PhytoCon GmbH & Co KG, an international corporation. The capsules contain gelatin polysuccinate (from pigs), glycerol 85%, water, titanium dioxide, and ferric oxide. If you don't want to take saw palmetto with an animal product, you'd better hope that another company pays to get it approved.
  • Cystipret Coated Tablets (Centaury herb, Lovage root and Rosemary leaf), made by Bionorica SE, an international corporation. Each tablet contains lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, maize starch, povidone K25, colloidal anhydrous silica, calcium carbonate, virgin castor oil, glucose syrup, iron oxide red, montan glycol wax, povidone K30, riboflavin, shellac, sucrose, talc, and titanium oxide. If you would prefer to take the herbs individually and in their natural form, rather than adultered in tablets, you'd better hope that another manufacturer does so.
  • Sainsbury's Echinacea Skin Care Tablets, Tesco Echinacea Skin Care Tablets, Superdrug Echinacea Skin Care Tablets, Gerard House Echinacea Skin Care Tablets and Herbalstore Echinacea Skin Tablets (Echinacea root). These are identical products produced by a single manufacturer. If you would prefer echinacea prepared on a smaller scale than that made for multiple supermarkets...well, you'd better hope that someone who produces smaller products will manage to jump through, and pay for, the hoops that approval requires. Lest you think it's a pure herbal product, each tablet includes anydrous silica, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, purified talc, mastercote green (which consists of vegetable carbon black, copper chlorophylin, and titanium dioxide).
  • Sinueeze Coated Tablets and Sinuherb Coated Tablets (Gentian, Verbena, Sorrel, Elder, Primula), made by PlantaPhine Ltd. The tablets also contain colloidal anhydrous silica, cellulose powder, maltodextrin, corscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, sucrose, talc, calcium carbonate, tragancanth, acacia, titanium dioxide, anhydrous glucose, shellac, white beeswax, and carnauba wax. Last I knew, carnauba wax was used to make cars shiny. And what about the sugars, sucrose and maltodextrin, they've sneaked in? Titanium dioxide may be carcinogenic when inhaled.
  • Holland & Barrett Valerian Capsules, GNC Live Well Valerian Capsules, Lifecycle Valerian Capsules and Nature’s Garden Valerian Capsules (Valeriana officinalis). Capsules contain magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, silica colloidal anydrous, and hypromellose. Holland and Barrett is part of GNC, a large international corporation.
  • Atrogel Arnica Gel, made by Bioforce Limited. Thus far, this is the only Arnica that the UK has approved—and no Calendula is listed so far. It's no wonder that A. Vogel, the brand name that Bioforce makes, has taken a stand in favor of the THMPD. They're a particularly large herbal product manufacturer in the UK, and it appears that they see the directive as a chance to corner the market on some products. At this point, they are the only Calendula maker that has received approval. It must be nice to have the government step in and produce a directive that could guarantee a corner on the market. Maybe they'll make it to Big Pharma status?
  • Peppermint Water BP 1973, made by Viridian Pharma Ltd. The ingredients include glycerol, nipasept sodium (which consists of sodium methyl, ethyl, and propyl parahydroxybenzoates), carbomer, and anhydrous citric acid. This is the only peppermint approved so far—and it comes with an ingredient that includes benzene, a known carcinogen.

Yes, as reported here in Gaia Health, peppermint is a controllable herb in the EU under THMPD.

The THMP Directive is set to go into full force on 30 April. This is a usurpation of our right to manage our health ourselves. There's no time to lose. Please, get involved. Sign the petition to Stop the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Directive, and then tell everyone you know. This travesty needs to be stopped—and the only the people themselves can do it. Our politicians have turned on us. They're about to hand over our control over our health to Big Pharma and Agribusiness. Let's stop them!

Author/Editor/Spoken-Word Performer Harvey Arden along with guest performers.

Mark Holtzman [ aka. Silent Bear ] will honor the gathering with his music on the Jan 31 venue only.

These and other dedicated and talented people will offer their personal thoughts of Leonard Peltier. Harvey Arden with the passion and spirit in the words of Leonard Peltier will make the event something not to be missed.

This passionate spoken word performance is based on the Leonard Peltier book-Prison Writings: My Life Is My Sun Dance.

Prison Writings was written in 1999 by the Native American political prisoner, Leonard Peltier, whose words were adapted into a powerful stage-play by his editor, Harvey Arden. Leonard's words are just as poignant today as when the book first appeared and deserves the attention of the entire nation.

Prison Writings is a collection of Peltier's essays and poems, reflecting his life and his work from within the prison walls. Defending his People and being Indian is his only crime. The cultural traditions of his people connect Leonard and each of us to the Great Mystery [ Wakan Tanka ]. This spirit connection and his personal sacrifice to the Creator keeps him strong and unbroken. His life is connected to each of us. Each day this innocent man suffers for his people; in fact ,now that you know his truth, he also suffers for you.

What will you do now?

During the horrific early 1970's Reign of Terror on the Lakota (Sioux)reservation at Pine Ridge South Dakota, an infamous time of violence and corruption existed. Complicit tribal officials hired local thugs known as ' GOONS --'Guardians of the Oglala Nation', who--with the blessing of the U.S. Government--carried out an unprovoked series of assaults on the traditional people on the Pine Ridge reservation. SD. Behind these attacks was Big Energy's desire for uranium under Sioux lands, then being secretly negotiated between the U.S. government and compliant Tribal officials.

Two FBI agents were killed on June 26, 1975 during a gun battle on The Jumping Bull Property. Leonard Peltier was falsely framed for the murder of the two FBI agents. The other defendants charged with the same crime had been acquitted by a jury. They were defending their people from an unprovoked attack. Self defense a basic right was denied Leonard Peltier and his legal team.

Following the discovery of new evidence obtained through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. Mr. Peltier demanded a new trial. The Eighth Circuit court ruled, "There is a possibility that the jury would have acquitted Leonard Peltier had the records and data improperly withheld from the defense been made available to him." Yet, the court denied Mr.Peltier a new trial. The jury sentenced Mr. Peltier to two consecutive life terms.

Judge Heaney, who authored the decision denying a new trial, has since voiced firm support for Mr. Peltier's release, stating that:

" The FBI used improper tactics to convict Mr. Peltier".

Judge Heaney also stated that:" The FBI was equally responsible for the shoot-out, and that Mr. Peltier's release would promote healing with Native Americans ".

So why is this story of Judicial Racism hidden from the public eye ?

The late Pope John Paul II, the Dalai Lama, Amnesty International,International Indian Treaty Council, the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Coretta Scott King, Mikhail Gorbachev, Gloria Steinem, Wilma Mankiller, Robert Redford, the European Parliament, and a host of other notables all have worked, petitioned, and pleaded for his release.

For the American Indian Nations as well as the world at large, the continued imprisonment of Leonard Peltier is Americas Judicial embarrassment.

The spirit of the Sun- dancer who is Leonard Peltier confronted with the treachery and ugliness of life has transcended and Has become the message, of hope, courage, and integrity for his People for his family and each of us.

Peltier has been behind prison bars for more than half of his life (he turned 63 this past September). He remains a model prisoner, establishing numerous humanitarian projects within the prison system as well as back on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Petitions will be available at both performances appealing for Leonard's release in his upcoming parole hearing. If Mr. Peltier is denied release at this hearing -he will not receive another
opportunity for freedom until the 2017 parole hearing. His official release date is 2041.
