ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- More thieves are using jiggle keys to break into vehicles.
In fact, Albuquerque police auto theft detectives said David Barber and Michael Farfan recently used jiggle keys to steal a car.Investigators said jiggle keys are modified and then jiggled into the lock to break into a car and start the engine.While their use is more prevalent, a local locksmith said they're not as effective as they used to be."If you have a newer auto, they may be able to break in but they won't be able to steal it because of the new transponder and chip keys that have come out," locksmith Marc McGranahan said.Investigators said cars made in the 1980s and the 1990s are usually the target of jiggle keys.Copyright 2012 by KOAT.com.
