Essex Police to review tweets

Essex Police is reviewing a number of tweets which have been brought to our attention.

While people may find some comments made by people on social networking sites regarding travellers and Dale Farm offensive, officers have to consider these comments against a criminal threshold.

Any which meet this threshold will be investigated.

We appreciate people’s right to freedom of speech, however we urge people not to make offensive remarks about any particular group.

Should anyone witness any comments which are offensive they should report these to police in the usual manner, via 101 or 0300 333 4444, rather than on the Essex Police Twitter account.
